ABOUT POTTERY PAINTING

Pottery painting is a fun and creative process where you decorate ceramic items to create your own unique pottery. To get started, you choose your unglazed pottery, often called bisque ware, and special ceramic paints called glazes.

First, choose a piece of pottery you want to paint. It's helpful to plan your design out for before you start painting you can do this using pencils provided. These marks made with the pencil will burn off in the kiln and will not be seen on your finished item. You can use brushes, sponges, or stencils to apply the paint to your pottery. If you make a mistake, you can wipe it off gently with a with a damp sponge.

Once you've finished painting your design hand it back to us and we will pop it on our drying racks to dry and then apply a clear glaze. This will seal your artwork and give it a shiny finish and make it food safe. It then has to be fired in the kiln up to 1000°c making the glaze permanent and giving your pottery its shinny finish!

Pottery painting is enjoyable and allows for endless creativity, whether you're painting a simple design or an intricate pattern. It's also a relaxing activity that can be done alone or with friends and family. Our bright and creative little studio offers a calm and inviting environment to get creative by the seaside.
